Greenhaven is currently Atlanta’s model home for sustainable living. For example, one of the most important finishes in a new home is the flooring, and the most popular floors are wood. Using different stains and types of wood, the floor can add character to the overall home. Unfortunately, cutting down trees in order to add character to a home is not eco-friendly in the slightest. So what is the green alternative to hardwood floors? There are a few options, but Pace Home Builders chose River Reclaimed Pine for Greenhaven.

River Reclaimed Pine is an alternative to antique reclaimed pine. The wood is over one hundred years old, and has spent most of the time at the bottom of a river. Back in the nineteenth century, trees were cut into logs, dragged to the nearest river, then tethered together to form a raft. The rafts floated downriver to the nearest mill. However, during this float downstream, the heavier logs sunk to the bottom of the river and there they remained. Even though the wood has been underwater for over 100 years, it is still in great condition since it was not exposed to oxygen.

Throughout Greenhaven are these river reclaimed pine floors. And, of course, Pace Home Builders maintained green tactics when installing the floors by using a low-VOC floor adhesive and waterborn hardwood floor finish. Not only are these pine floors beautiful and full of character, but they also feel great to walk on.
