At Greenhaven we installed 3 of the Velux SUN TUNNEL Skylights. Our objective was to significatnly reduce energy costs through harvesting sunlight in these three areas of the home.

1. What influenced your company to promote green products?
VELUX was founded on the principles of bringing fresh air and daylight through the roof, hence the name VELUX (VE for ventilation and LUX for Light).  Our founder, Villum Kann Rasmussen, began the company by developing the world's first Roof Window.  It's purpose was to bring these elements into the unused attic to create desirable, livable space.

2. What are the environmental benefits to?
The VELUX SUN TUNNEL™ skylight collects daylight at the roof and, through the use of highly reflective pipe, delivers natural daylight to virtually any room under the roof.  By utilizing natural light provided by the sun, this skylight decreases the need for and use of electric light during the day.  An added benefit is natural daylight provides better color rendition than mechanical lighting.  This is why VELUX Sun Tunnel skylights are popular in more than just kitchens, but also in closets and bathrooms.

VELUX skylights deliver more light for more hours of the day than vertical windows (30% more on average according to a 2007 Danish Building Research Institute report).
