Normal 0 false false false MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 About | Rebecca Butler It all began with a little Dixie cup of soil and a sprouting sunflower seed in the kitchen window... at that moment, she was hooked. From an early age, Rebecca Butler was already learning about gardening and the environment from family members in her native Charleston, South Carolina. "I literally grew-up in a place where coastal conservation practices are the strictest and gardening... is simply a part of your identity!" Moving to Atlanta in 2006, Rebecca found herself in the market for outdoor furniture. Thorough research led her to Smith & Hawken to purchase pieces made from sustainable Teak, designed to last a lifetime. "My experience with S&H really left an impression on me!" So much so she accepted a sales position with them within a year and is currently a member of the store's management team. These days you can find Rebecca at S&H educating her clients and customers about responsible choices for outdoor living products and holding firm to the belief that enjoying the outdoors doesn't have to be done sitting on plastic chairs.
For the outdoor living spaces at Greenhaven, the Smith & Hawken design team chose to follow two classic garden design styles as inspiration-European traditional for the home's entry and sophisticated rustic for the private, more secluded areas. Eco-friendly materials like rust-proof cast aluminum, copper and sustainably harvested Premium Teakä were chosen for all the home's outdoor rooms. Landscape Designer Justin Cave chose our Lenox Collection Arch and Ellington Place Bench for the courtyard garden just outside the Women's Study. Adding formality and romance, the pieces bring to mind traditional English and French metalwork pieces. The home's entry porch follows suit with an iconic Lutyens bench made of sustainable teak and out-fitted with an exclusive S&H cushion made of 100% recyclable materials. Courtyard and porch containers are 100% Turkish copper adding warmth as well as a slightly updated feel. A small Ellington Place "bistro" set sits just outside the mudroom and kitchen hall to provide a place to take off muddy shoes or for a quiet cup of coffee in the morning. The side porch, following the length of the home, is punctuated with backless Inverness benches, also in Premium Teakä, and provide seating for enjoying the upper-level view or keeping the family chef company while grilling. Copper column planters add height and counterpoint to the casual bench seating. For the screened porch, the setting is reminiscent of a rustic Adirondack retreat. Generously proportioned lounge pieces from our Saranac Collection surround the outdoor fireplace. Designed exclusively for Smith & Hawken by Frederic Spector, the pieces provide ample comfort. A space conscious Premium TeakTM dining table and chairs accommodates four or six . Devon Arm and Side chairs have completely recyclable cushions and double as extra seating for guests. |
